Professor Howick’s mission is to improve people’s health and wellbeing via inspirational and evidence-based teaching. He is the inaugural Director of the Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare and Professor of Empathic Healthcare at the University of Leicester. He also a fellow of Kellogg College, Oxford, where he directs the Oxford Empathy Programme. His mission is to ensure that all healthcare consultations include a dose of empathy and he achieves this by using evidence-based methods to develop and deliver empathy training to practitioners in the UK, US, Canada, and elsewhere. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed publications and three books, including The Philosophy of Evidence-Based Medicine (which defined a sub-field within evidence-based medicine) and Doctor You (an Amazon #1 bestseller). He has received numerous awards, including from the British Medical Association, the European Society for Person-Centred Care, and the University of Oxford. As an expert he has appeared on the BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 as well as several newspapers including The Guardian, The Times, Men’s Health, and the Daily Mail. He regularly gives talks to academic and non-academic audiences.
