Hey, I'm Jim Young. Thanks for stopping to read about me. Besides my new title of "Author," I am an Executive Coach and Facilitator. Yeah, I know. Another straight, middle aged, white guy, selling wisdom, right? I mean sure--I spent 25 years as a corporate leader, watching lots of doors open for me and climbing the ladder in the ways I was expected to. But if you'll hang with me, I might not actually be what you'd expect. See, along the way I realized how the typical Corporate American experience affected people around me. Stress, divisiveness, confusion, and exhaustion were rampant in the business world I inhabited. And, importantly, it caused me tons of harm, even with all of my privilege. The isolation and pressure of living up to outdated expectations to be a "strong, silent provider and protector" caused me to burn out. Hard. So one day when I was in my mid-40s, I left it all behind to start over. No more toxic competition for the top job. No more setting aside family and relationships to "succeed" at work. Several years later, my experience is radically different. I've done a lot of reprogramming to undo the social conditioning that had me gripping onto a misguided need for status and power. I see how harmful that is. That un- and re-learning took many forms, from spiritual practices to professional development to the mystical & magical world of improv comedy, from which I have learned so much wisdom. Today, I aim to be of service to individuals and organizations who are seeking a similar kind of balance for themselves. I use a blend of all those experiences--my vast understanding of the modern business world, the wider range of perspectives that a coach is trained to explore, joyful gifts from hundreds of hours of improv comedy training, and the ability to create safe spaces that allow people to connect via their most important stories. Whether in an eye- and heart-opening talk, a skill-building workshop, or an individual coaching session, my aim is to engage people in interactive learning that creates true, positive change. Of utmost importance, I wish to use all I've been given to create a level playing field where we are all included and our gifts are shared with reverence. Ultimately, I strive to help people find the calm, centered place from which they do their best at work and in life. Perhaps ironically, I believe we find that place in ourselves when we create deep connections with others through "expansive intimacy." You can learn more about my work at www.thecenteredcoach.com. Thank you.
