Hey everybody! I am so glad to meet you. My name is Jo Ann Glim. I'm an author and podcaster with a passion for helping stroke survivors find resources, inspiration and hope as they try to make sense of the life that's now before them. My stroke occurred in 1997 and nearly ended my life. It was an hemorrhagic stroke that left me totally paralyzed on the right side, unable to walk, talk, or see straight. I lived in a rehab center for three months learning how to do everything . . . and I mean everything, over again. It took another two years to regain my strength. That was the beginning of a new me, in many ways but my life actually began when I was born in Chicago, Illinois to a military family and raised in Anacortes, Washington in the far reaches of the Pacific Northwest. It was an ideal place to raise a precocious child, especially one that's inquisitive and daring. Tragically, my mother passed away from a stroke when I was fourteen. That event filtered the way I lived in many ways. I never thought I'd have a stroke . . . 'cause I never smoked, never drank, ate healthy, was physically active but my DNA decided it was my turn.
I was grateful that my three-pronged career in broadcast/print media, freelance writing, and business management formed me into the indie author I am today. My books, the award-winning "Begotten With Love" (First Place Biography with the Florida Writers Association Royal Palm Literary awards, and the stroke memoir "Trapped Within," are both non-fiction, life stories filled with challenges, hope, and humor. Both books are available in print and eBook and "Trapped Within" is also available in audiobook form, narrated by Melinda Wade.
My new life has been good. It's been a challenge and took years of determination, focus, and faith to be able to say that. No matter where you are in your recovery, do as many of us stroke survivors do. Never Give Up!
