The author John Cressman is the husband of Diane Cressman, whom he met after returning from Vietnam, while stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. He is the father of six children and the grandfather of sixteen. There is also one great granddaughter on the way. He has loved the outdoors since birth even jumping so high in his crib to see out a window that he went over the railing and broke his nose. He was born to Christian parents, in center city Allentown, PA in 1946. There was not much to do for adventure in center city during the 40s and 50s other than explore factories, dairies, and department stores where he dismantled an elevator at age 6 and got trapped inside. John often humorously accuses a little devil of whispering in his ear to be a little devil himself but at the same time hears an angel saying he must be Johnny Angel. When he listens to the little devil and gets into trouble, he believes there may be a guardian angel involved in protecting him. He wonders if this angel gets tired and wants to quit.
At age eight, his parents to the countryside where John fell in love with the mountains, streams, forests, real ground to play in and learn about worms, centipedes, and other animals. He met a lifelong friend in kindergarten and together they wanted to explore and be adventurous just like they had seen on TV. As John got himself into life threatening circumstances, he prayed to God as his parents had taught him. The answered prayers made him wander if there really was a God and a guardian angel assigned to him. When John saw canyons, mountains, oceans, strata pushed up out of the earth and all the living creatures, he wondered how they got there. When he sat by a bubbling brook, looked over the earth from a high mountain vista, laid on a rock looking up at all the different snowflakes, why did that make him feel good and be at peace. John continued to ask questions about God and his creation his whole life.
John continued to fall in love with the outdoor as he went to a church camp, Boy Scout Camp and spent much of his life outdoors enjoying the adventures of fishing, hunting, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, winter camping and cross-country skiing. While stationed in Japan, he toured Japan for 14 days on his motorcycle. After marriage, John’s wife enjoyed going on these adventures with him. They were both counselors at a church camp where they taught love of God and love of nature. Later they were directors of a youth camp where they taught love of God and love of outdoors. As their six children came along, John introduced them to loving the outdoors as well as a love for God. John is gradually involving his grand children to the love of God as well as the love of the outdoors. John also taught a Wilderness Survival, Winter Camping and Cross-country class at a local community college.
