It is rumored that John David Kegg was likely the offspring of hobos, born by the railroad yards in an obscure corner of Cincinnati, Ohio - the home of actual flying pigs, (infamous) Cincinnati style chili, and ice cream with chocolate chips the size of your fist. He was born poor and remains poor, so please send money for his care. He has needs.
JD writes and illustrates to make his family and friends smile, snicker, spit-take, or roll their eyes. Admittedly, they usually do the latter, which is why he often wishes unkind things would happen to some of them. The feeling is probably mutual. That said, his stories are very tongue-in-cheek and his illustrations even more so, with little hidden jokes and jibes throughout both. He just loves getting lost in the rhythm of words and images that crack open a brief window into the delusion that is a writer’s mind. There is no better feeling than when he finishes reading a story and a goofy (and in his case, somewhat vacant) smile is still sitting on his face. That is the measure of a story he wants to read again…and again.
In JD’s words, “Many years ago, as an awkward high school English class student, I turned in a short story and received some unexpected feedback that stuck in my head until I acted on the teacher's advice. The result was the story, "Beware the Reenie". Given my short attention span, I went to college, got married, and had and raised four (abusive) children before I picked up a pen again. I'm still awkward, but I am delighted to be here sharing with you my twist on bedtime stories. Not for everyone, my stories are silly, sarcastic, and (at times) a little macabre.”
“So, if you haven't been frightened off yet, there is more in store for you because there are currently several more stories being developed. It helps that I really don't sleep, am OCD, and likely drink my weight in caffeine. A little bit of a watch out, though - I only recently realized that I can draw, so please cut me some slack. I am learning to illustrate as I go. And that has been SOMETHING!”
Perhaps most importantly, JD’s writing has made it possible for him to work with his (previously mentioned abusive) adult children. One is a lover of video production, another a talented, budding illustrator, a third a larger-than-life personality and sometimes voice actor, and the fourth a wealth of fun and interesting story ideas. More to come on those collaborations very soon. He hopes you enjoy them as much as he has. But please don't tell his children - they will use it against him.
