Kamarun Kalam (aka Kam) was born in 1978 and raised in Uxbridge, Middlesex in the UK and moved to Birmingham at the age of 11. Kam developed a passion for supporting others through her school’s mentoring system and has been in the caring professions ever since. Kam has helped countless couples, children, families and individuals in her career as a social worker, Family Mediator and Psychotherapist spanning over the past 20 years. In her downtime, Kam enjoys spending time with her family and taking spa breaks away with loved ones. She has a zest for life, a good sense of humour and loves learning new skills and techniques in order to help her clients in the best way possible. She is open minded and loves experiencing other cultures, cuisines, traditions and ways of life. Her experience over the past two decades has helped her to understand the human dilemmas we all face and the different ways we all manage our lives. Kam has helped many people to re-attune their lives and find their way through various struggles. Her warm personality, empathetic nature and quirky sense of humour puts others at ease. She is an outgoing, motivated and enthusiastic person who has a wealth of experience working with people from all walks of life. Kam has worked with a number of professional organisations including the Salvation Army Contact Centre for separated families; as a Court Advisor for Children and Families Support Service; Birmingham City Council as a Safeguarding Social Worker; Barnardo’s, supporting sexually exploited children; MIND, the mental health charity, as a Counselor; and with the Youth Justice Service across the West Midlands. Kam is also a trained supervisor for Social Workers and Counselors in training and has supervised several professionals across the span of her career so far. Kam previously volunteered at her local radio station, UnityFM, producing and presenting a radio show on social issues to support local families by offering free advice and support, and has been a guest speaker on the UnityFM ‘Approachable Parenting’ radio show. Kam currently works part time for FosterTalk as a Fosterline advisor supporting existing and prospective foster carers with enquiries; she voluntarily contributed towards writing some of the content of the Mercy Mission ‘Guide for Foster Carers Caring for Muslim Children’. Kam works the rest of the week as a Psychotherapist in her private practice, Talkwell Counselling Service.
