About the Author Karen Shughart is the author of the maritime-themed Edmund DeCleryk mysteries with a cozy vibe (Silver Waters Press). All books in this stand-alone series have historical subplots with excursions to Canada and England where secrets from the past help to solve the crime. The end of each book contains recipes prepared by the sleuth's wife, Annie, head of the local historical society, who assists her husband in finding the killers. Karen is also a co-author of two additional mysteries published by Cozy Cat Press, and the author of two non-fiction books. She is a member of Crime Writers Association of the UK, North America Chapter and FLARE (Finger Lakes Authors and Readers Exchange). Murder at Freedom Hill, book three in the series, received a Firebird Book Award for best mystery in 2023, and the third-place award for fiction. Follow her monthly blogs at Life in the Finger Lakes Magazine; and her Facebook page, Instagram and BlueSky Social for updates and new releases. Watch her on YouTube as she prepares a recipe from one of her books; and listen to her interview at The Cozy Sleuth podcast. Karen and her husband live in a village on Lake Ontario, the prototype for the fictional Great Lakes coastal village of Lighthouse Cove. Prior to becoming an author she worked as an editor, publicist, journalist, teacher, and non-profit executive.
