Kathryn Staley-Hamm was raised in the Fond du Lac area in Wisconsin. She began her music career early at age 7 with violin lessons. Brought up in a musical family, she began voice and piano lessons at age 14 with Madame Ada Lombardi, a vocal teacher from Italy. Madame Lombardi's vast knowledge taught her discipline, understanding of opera and respect for vocal technique. This formed the basis for her current teaching method and vocal guide book, "Pure Voice". After attending Marion College in Fond du Lac, Kathryn moved to Chicago and began a professional singing career. She attended the Chicago Conservatory, furthering her studies in voice; French, German, and Italian diction; piano; and music theory. Kathryn's accomplishments: - A one year vocal study program in Augsburg, Germany - Recipient of a three-year Foundation for the Arts scholarship - Audition acceptance in the Chicago Lyric Opera understudy program - "Wonderful World Singer" at CBS studios in Chicago - Performed professionally for many years at several night clubs in Chicago: Café D’Angelo, Oxford House and Orso’s - She recorded several CD's: "Choices" in Nashville, TN; "Merry Christmas With Love"; "Christmas Peace"; "Until Then" - In 1995, she was a vocalist for the Wisconsin State Republican Convention - A lecturer at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, "Singing and Speech" - A lecturer for "Learning for Life", a high school career awareness program - In 1998, published "Pure Voice", a vocal guidebook - 2003-2005, several interviews with KFIZ radio station, "Backstage Live" - In 2008, she published "Pure Voice: The Heart of Singing For Kids" "Pure Voice: The Heart of Singing For Kids" is a unique instructional vocal book. As a voice teacher of many years, Kathryn felt the need to create a simplified vocal guide for children of all ages, 7 through 12. The five-step approach to vocal technique is written in easy-to-comprehend storybook style. Children will find this interesting, easy to read and encouraging. "Pure Voice" is a simplified method of Kathryn's teaching, meant to be a guide for the beginner, reinforcement for the intermediate student and a reminder for the advanced singer. The basic points or categories that make up "Pure Voice" are from Kathryn's experience as a student, teacher and professional singer of many years. She has been greatly influenced by her first teacher who taught her an understanding of voice through breath control, relaxation, diction and vocal placement, which make up the four sections of the book. These concepts will help you understand the basics of singing and will help preserve your instrument -- voice. "I believe music is a gift to be shared.
