Kris (Sauer) Wallace was born in Springfield, Illinois, the Land of Lincoln. She grew up eating horseshoes and Mel-O-Cream donuts, buying candy at Pease’s, and riding her bike through Washington Park. After graduating from Springfield High School and Purdue University, Kris attended law school at Ohio Northern University where she met her husband John. After spending time in California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, they moved to Moscow, Idaho. That’s where Kris was admitted to the Idaho State Bar before manifesting her donut business. In 2014, Kris was invited to compete on the Cooking Channel’s Donut Showdown. She won the Mardi Gras episode and you can find her awesome potato donut recipe in the book, The Mad Feast: An Ecstatic Tour Through America’s Food by Matthew Gavin Frank. In 2015, Kris and John sold the donut shop, their house, and all of their stuff to travel the US in an RV with their four kids. They were workampers in Las Cruces, NM, until moving to St. Paul in 2017. When she's not eating donuts, Kris teaches English to 8th graders, creates fun journals, and travels with new flight benefits!
