I write books for kids because I have always been the storyteller for my own children. Some of the fables I tell my sons are about the everyday stuff they see around.
The process of creating stories about stuff looks something like that:
My son: -- Dad, tell me a story about a fork.
Me: -- A fork? Why a fork? How about a story about a princess and a monster.
My son: -- Nope. The story about a fork, and a window, please...
Me: -- Ok, then. Once upon a time, there was a fork...
And that's how twelve "Stories about Stuff" came into existence and are being successively published.
Besides writing, I am a tenure-track professor in the School of Communication at American University in Washingon, DC., and the Founding Director of American University Immersive Designs, Applications, Experiences, and Stories Lab. In my research, I focus on immersive technologies, volumetric filmmaking, machine learning, and exploration of Artificial Reality Continuum (ARC) applications in theater, health, and education domains. In my artistic practice, I direct traditional fiction and documentary films and experiment with volumetric and generative filmmaking. I teach graduate courses in filmmaking, immersive filmmaking, game development, and computer science/software engineering courses.
