On arriving into work, I was immediately called into a meeting with HR and my boss and was told my job was at risk of redundancy. I had gone into the office on a clear summers day in 2015, as I would any other morning, in my role as a technical sales engineer in the Oil and Gas industry. Six weeks later, although I was lucky to find out I had kept my job - that painful redundancy process was the wakeup call I needed to stop sleepwalking and cruising through life. You have a comfortable existence- lovely house, nice car, you go on beautiful holidays, but you don't realise how fragile that existence and truthfully how pointless it is of you are not doing what you love. That was the kick I needed to purse the childhood dream of becoming an airline pilot. Around my engineering job on a part-time basis during my evenings and weekends, I completed my modular pilot training in 12 months at a fraction of the cost and time others took (it usually takes 18-24months and costs well over £100k). I decided to write a book to share the lessons and experiences I had to make the flight training journey for others more comfortable. I currently fly the B737 in Europe and have a blog https://kcthepilot.com focussed around modular pilot training.
