A direct descendant of William Sweeney and five other Civil War soldiers, the author has pieced this story together from historical documents and oral history.
Formerly a U.S. Army Captain, Mr. Vetters has studied the Civil War his entire life, both as a military professional and as a hobbyist. The author has books in the gift shops of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Civil War Battlefield sites across the country. He regularly speaks at organizations about bridging divides and understanding the consequences of divisiveness.
Mr. Vetters’ active role in the classrooms of his three children ingrained him with an understanding of children’s interests in this powerful subject.
