I live in Florida, USA, but I really love the UK. I've visited on numerous occasions, going back to 1999, when I took a whirlwind tour of England and Wales. My Dad was with me, and he said, "Why do you want to go to a place in Wales called Caernarfon? I dared not tell him that it was because I was writing a book, a novel, and Caernarfon and North Wales was where my protagonist resided... in the year 1581. GHISLAIN AND TRAHAEARN is an epic saga about a boy and his dog. Believe it or not, I started writing this story in 1971, the year I graduated from High School. I went to the local library and researched locations that i thought would be exciting, such as the Cirque de Gavarnie, and of course Caernarfon! That name just captivated my imagination - I had to go there someday. Then, through the years I would start writing "the book" using pen and paper. I'd write 50 pages or more, tear them up, start again, quit, tell myself, "Who are you kidding? You're not a writer!" Then ten years later, I would start it up again and write maybe 100 pages or more. Then the frustration always returned and into the trash can that handwritten manuscript would go. In 2014, my nephew gave me a lenovo idea pad. He also paid for me to have Microsoft Word. Inspired to write again, I began typing. Here it is July of 2020 and my novel is not only finished, which is amazing, considering all the years that have gone by since I first thought of the story, but it's PUBLISHED! It's a book, and I hope you find the story to be worth the wait. The story itself is about perseverance and bravery, and having the will to go on, so-to-speak. And of course, it's about the bond between a boy and his dog. It's definitely action/adventure. The genre might well be YA, but i believe it will appeal to older ones as well. It's a "clean" book. If you enjoy a lot of foul language, sexually explicit scenes, and the like, don't bother. Books that i think are similar might include; The Call of the Wild, The Last of the Mohicans, The Frontiersman, and this will sound strange, Tarzan of the Apes. Ghislain is Tarzan-like, in that he not only survives in the forests of the New World, he thrives! But without his magnificent dog, Trahaearn, he would have been lost. LKL
