My wife's breast cancer had returned.
It had invaded her liver, lungs, and bones.
After trying to fight it for another six months,
the standard chemo's proved useless.
Her disease would now be fatal.
Since there was no hope,
she qualified to join various trials for new combinations of drugs.
Linda had always been wildly creative
having achieved success as a fashion designer,
but at this point, her artistic energies exploded in new directions:
mosaics, hand-painted pottery, hand-made books, and poetry.
I had noticed her working away on a yellow legal pad for several days,
flipping over page after filled-page.
I asked her what in the world she was working on
one morning while hustling our two girls off to school,
"A poem about Perry Q. Pumpinog", she replied.
Perry Q. Who? - I wondered, as our front door slammed behind me.
Perry Q. Pumpinog, a seventeen chapter epic poem for kids,
practically "fell out" of her with very few revisions or corrections.
Then Linda died.
Years have passed, but I've never stopped
wondering if others might enjoy
Perry's adventures as much as my daughters and I have.
It was the two of them, Bryn and Dana,
who coaxed me to release Perry as an audiobook,
as well as an eBook.
They wanted me to read it
just like I had read to them years ago at bedtime
with all the different character voices.
(Six of seven Harry Potter books read aloud!
Thank God, they could read faster than me
by the time the seventh came out!)
I've taken them up on their suggestion.
Perry Q. Pumpinog is an eBook
AND an audiobook.
My daughters are pleased!
We hope you will be, too.
