Maggie Hess self published her first chapbook, "The Cracked Nut" about the struggle of Appalachians to fight Mountaintop Removal and her response as an angry Quaker. Since then, Maggie has learned to study a Buddhist peace. In college, Maggie was the winner of the Leidig Poetry Prize awarded to her by the former poet laureate of Maryland, Linda Pastan. Over 40 of her poems appear in journals ranging from Tule to Blue Fifth to Skyhorse. Maggie can be found doing yoga with her favorite disabled young adults, dipping in a creek, or folding paper birds for peace.
