Marilyn Gist is an expert on developing leaders who has long observed the quality of relationships leaders must form to work effectively with others. Seeing that we don’t gain support by stepping on others’ dignity, she developed a powerful model based on leader humility - the tendency to feel and display a deep regard for others’ dignity. Leader humility yields great results. To amplify this message in her book, Marilyn interviewed presidents and CEOs representing Alaska Airlines, Boeing, Brooks Running, Costco, Foot Locker, Ford Motor, JP Morgan Chase, Expeditors International, Holland America Lines, Mayo Clinic, REI, Starbucks, TIAA, and the U.S. Department of the Interior. She incorporates their advice and experience to show how humility makes a difference. The book includes a chapter written by Alan Mulally, explaining the Working Together Management System, based in leader humility, that saved Ford from failure during the Great Recession. Marilyn’s work has won numerous awards. Her academic career spans the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Washington where she held the Boeing Endowed Professorship of Business Management, and Seattle University where she served as Associate Dean, Professor of Management, and Executive Director of the Center for Leadership Formation.
