Marty Akins is a sixth-generation Texan dating back to the Republic of Texas. He was a national champion in track and field, an All-American quarterback in college, the Southwest Conference Most Valuable Player, as well as the Player of the Year of the SWC, and a Hall of Fame Inductee. He graduated with honors from law school, practicing law for forty years. He was also an adjunct professor at a law school teaching remedies and at a university teaching business law and ethics while being the head men's and women's golf coach. He is also a rancher, outdoorsman, artist, and writer.
