Born and raised in Tehran within a bustling, hard-working middle-class family, I spent my childhood surrounded by a supportive network of relatives. My education in Tehran, from elementary through high school, was marked by dreams as boundless as the cosmos. As a child I was deeply fascinated by the mysteries of our Solar System and beyond, with a strong desire to explore our planet and the universe. From a young age, my interests in art, history, philosophy, and travel were ignited. This passion for learning and exploration led me to pursue further studies in art in Perugia, Italy, and later in computer science in Vienna, Austria. To fund my studies, I frequently took on various labor-intensive jobs, driven by a steadfast commitment to fulfill my dreams.
After finishing my studies, I landed my first significant job at a leading U.S. computer manufacturer, where I worked on designing the first powerful mini computers for global scientific use in the early '80s. Subsequently, I relocated to Sophia Antipolis, the European tech center in France. My career path later led me to Silicon Valley in California, where I helped Apple with transitioning mainframe applications to new VMS platforms in the early '90s. I then spent several years at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, before finally returning to Vienna to retire and publish a book summarizing some of my professional achievements (The Art of CRM).
Over the years, while my career took me across the globe for various international projects, I devoted my spare time to study physics and astronomy. I acquired both a deep-sky and a planetary telescope, delved into the history of the universe and Homo sapiens, and fulfilled my childhood dream of exploring the world. I have led a full and rich life. I could just sit in my armchair in my retirement. But I didn’t. Why? Because I had to discover more about my roots. This journey is not merely legitimate but crucial, particularly for me eager to grasp the essence of my existence.
My profound connection with Persia reignited about six years ago, sparked by another book project (Persia 1001 Nights) that drew me back to the land of my birth—the cradle of Homo sapiens and the world’s earliest civilizations at the foot of the Zagros Mountains. This rekindled interest led me to embark on a journey along the ancient Silk Road in Iran with my German friend Willy, a former collaborator on Iran's first nuclear power project during the Shah’s reign. Our journey was meant to delve into the country's rich historical place, but it unfolded during the tragic death of Mahsa Amini at the hands of the Mullahs and a time of intense political turmoil.
Despite my extensive travel experience and meticulous planning, nothing could have fully prepared me for the shocking events and profound revelations that greeted me during the first week of my trip to Iran. I was stunned to discover the extensive crimes committed by the mullahs' regime over the past 45 years. Even more astonishing was my discovery of the Mullahs' conspiracy against Zoroaster and the Zoroastrians a thousand years ago, revelations that deepened my connection to my Persian heritage and revealed the splendor of one of the highest civilizations on earth. In my latest book "My Persian Roots", I aim to share these insights through an enchanting narrative, hoping to touch and inspire readers around the world, young and old.
In this book, I share my experiences in Iran, my explorations and discoveries about Zarathustra and my Persian heritage, as well as my personal feelings that have made me who I am today. In a time when we no longer gather around the fire to absorb the wisdom of our elders - often because personalities are few or far between - a book might be a good substitute said a very good friend and editor of my book. She suggested that the title of this book should be “My Persian Roots”, and I chose “Zarathustra Beyond Time” as a subtitle to honor Zarathustra's timeless contribution not only to Persian heritage but to civilizations around the world.
