No sooner had the Lord given Mel Ann Sullivan Psalm 37:4 as a promise than she began to see the people she loved most taken from her. Her mother lost a battle with brain cancer when Mel Ann was 18 years old. Then, at the age of 22 at the beginning of her career and marriage, her father had a fatal automobile accident. By anyone’s standards, it would not be the best way to enter adult life.
After nearly 30 years of marriage and three children, God has given Mel Ann the desires of her heart, and not the least of them - the delight of a relationship with Christ that far exceeds salvation alone.
Saved at a young age, Mel Ann began a journey with the Lord to bring her to a place where she not only calls Him Savior, but bows to Him as Lord. In the absence of the strongest support she and her siblings had ever known, the losses brought a stark awakening as they learned to depend on the God in whom their parents had strongly professed faith.
Mel Ann and her husband live in Millry, Alabama. Their young adult children are pursuing their college and high school degrees. She and her family have served the local body of Christ as members of Calvary Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Mississippi since 2004. They enjoy simple rural living on family land with many relatives living close by. She holds a B.A. from the School of Communication at the University of Alabama, and enjoys writing and speaking, both in Christian service and professionally. She has made her career in marketing and communications for three decades, and most recently in the financial services industry.
Mel Ann also serves on the board of directors and executive committee for AltaPointe Health Systems, Alabama’s largest and most comprehensive behavioral healthcare and psychiatric hospital system and the second largest in the southeastern US employing 1450 healthcare professionals. She also serves as a steering committee member for Bank On South Alabama, a regional initiative to reach the unbanked and under-banked with mainstream financial products and services. Additionally, Mel Ann has led in various roles supporting the partner agencies for United Way of Southwest Alabama since 2001. She has held numerous past board positions in her professional career.
