Did you know that God asked me and my family to sell my business of 20 years to pursue a dream of writing a book? I am Melissa H. Thompson and I have many roles: wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, small business owner, church leader, community advocate, non-profit volunteer. As I live into these roles, there is an overarching consideration that informs my every endeavor, every conversation, every decision. It is how, as a Christian, my actions serve God and grow God’s Kingdom. I am passionate about God and the love God shows me and each of us every day. As I have matured in my relationship with God, I have become a committed student of God’s Word, eager to read and share the divinely-inspired text with others. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and I not only see God’s Power at work in my life and in the world around me, I hear God speak. My deepest desire is to not only hear God, but to trust God by obeying what God asks of me. I am a native of High Point, North Carolina, living, attending school and working in the area known as the Piedmont Triad for all of my life. My husband, son and I currently make our home in Thomasville, North Carolina. I received a bachelor’s degree in English from High Point University. In 1997, I began working for Nationwide Insurance and became incorporated under the Melissa H. Thompson Agency in 2003. In 2018, I sold my business to follow a dream of writing a book. I have served in various leadership roles in the local church, including chairperson of the Administrative Council, which led visioning and oversaw all decision making processes for the local congregation, as well as Lay Leader, which served as a liaison between the pastor and the members while working alongside the pastor. My work as a Christian leader extends beyond my local church. Since 2008, I have been a Certified Lay Servant of The United Methodist Church and currently serve as a member of the Board of Faculties for the Lay Servant School. I teach a number of courses offered by The United Methodist Church, including “History of The United Methodist Church” and “Social Justice.” In 2013, I am also a certified Speaker Representative with the Pocket Testament League, an international non-profit organization. I am active in my community, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, World Relief and Ward Street Mission, a local ministry that serves dinner weekly to approximately 250 people. I enjoy blogging weekly on my website, www.melissaHthompson.com, and speaking at various groups including book clubs, churches and small groups.
