Michael Scott Hopkins grew up in San Leandro, California, next to the San Francisco Bay. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as an avionics technician, working primarily on the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom on bases in Germany, Spain, and the United States. His desire to be a writer played no small part in his decision to join the military. “I knew I wanted to be a writer,” he explains. “But good writing comes from experience. I decided the fastest way to get it was to see the world outside of California and meet as many people from as many places as possible.” Hopkins earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from Governors State University, where he later worked in public relations and as a speechwriter. He earned his juris doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School and is a practicing attorney. His first novel, “The Things in Heaven and Earth,” was published by Black Rose Writing in July of 2021. His second novel, “Gideon’s Sorrow,” is scheduled for publication in March of 2022. He is an avid runner and motorcyclist.
