Michelle Ray loves killing people . . . in her books. This would worry her a bit, but Shakespeare's body count outpaced hers significantly. A confident "theater geek", she also loves to read, to hang out with her friends & family, to teach cool things to her middle school students, and to go to the movies. Most surprising in her life so far was having FALLING FOR HAMLET optioned for TV and end up "inspiring" THE ROYALS, E!'s first scripted drama. Her YA novels MAC/BETH and MUCH ADO ABOUT SOMETHING are her continued attempt to get reluctant people interested in Shakespeare, and to entertain the people who already like his stories by letting them see the tales in a new way. She loved working with her historian husband on A WORLD ON FIRE, turning his research on Jews of the Medieval Mediterranean into a story. OUTLAW was inspired by Audra Mae's song "Bandita" and a search for real teen female outlaws of the Wild West. THERE YOU WERE and BY DUTY BOUND let her delve into her admiration and love for Jane Austen's work, world, and characters. AN INDUCEMENT INTO MATRIMONY, an anthology of Pride & Prejudice short story variations by Quills & Quartos authors, was a wonderful chance to explore music and ambition in Austen's time. Michelle grew up in LA, moved to Boston then New York, and now lives near Washington, DC. She visits NYC whenever she can.
