Nadean J. Barton, originally from Jamaica, grew up in Bronx, New York, and later embarked on a remarkable 25-year career in the U.S. Navy. Enlisting in October 1995, she trained at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, and began her journey at Helicopter Squadron 1 in Jacksonville, Florida. Her career took her across the globe, from training in San Diego, California, to serving aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in Yokosuka, Japan, where she explored numerous countries. Later, she transitioned to Naples, Italy, balancing her military duties with her love for track and field. Nadean’s leadership shined during her postings in Bethesda, Maryland, and Navy Recruiting Districts in Miami, Dallas, and Seattle, where she achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. She concluded her service at Navy Recruiting District Atlanta, Georgia.
Decorated with numerous honors, including the Navy Commendation Medal and nine Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Nadean also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ashford University and a Master’s in Business/Entrepreneurship from AMU.
Beyond her military achievements, Nadean transformed personal adversity into a powerful message of hope and resilience through her writing. Her debut book, Can A Girl Catch a Break?, was written in just six days and published in 30. This deeply personal work chronicled her healing journey after a miscarriage, paving the way for subsequent books such as The Voices Behind Mental Illness, The Life of a Veteran—a guide to mental wellness success—and The Love She Never Had.
Through continued healing and self-discovery, Nadean authored It Was Not You; It Was the Phoenix in You - The Rebirth, a testament to finding strength in adversity. She has also contributed to influential anthologies, including There is No Health Without Mental Health and Think Pink: Success Stories from Women Who Launched Businesses and Changed Lives, inspiring readers to rise above setbacks. Her participation in Covid-19, Vol. 4: All of Our Fears and Triumphs further highlights her advocacy for resilience and empowerment during challenging times.
Nadean’s latest works, I Am CHOOSING Me and Navy Girl to Boss Chic, chronicle her journey from the Navy to entrepreneurship, empowering others to embrace their potential. Her books are widely available on platforms like Amazon, Walmart, Lulu, Barnes and Noble, and even in the Harvard Library.
