She moved to Albany, NY where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases. She later moved to Florida where she has been providing care for her patients through her vast experience and knowledge in the management of cardiovascular disease. She is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), Adult Echocardiography by the American Society of Echocardiography(ASE), and Nuclear Cardiology by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC). Further, Dr. Alvarez has extensive expertise in the management of woman’s Heart Disease and has a particular interest in the management of arrhythmias and preventive cardiovascular medicine. In fact, she is an avid runner and believes that a healthy lifestyle is the beginning of better heart health. Outside of her practice, she enjoys spending time with her 2 precious children and her husband. Dr. Alvarez wants to empower her patients and readers – particularly the females- to take care of their health and become your own health advocate. By doing so, it will help prevent you from becoming a statistic and also change the sad truth that heart disease is the #1 killer of women. Dr. Alvarez’s inspiration to write this book came from seeing her patients wait too long to seek treatment. In addition to her educational videos, she believes more is need to educate the community she serves. Dr. Alvarez dedicates this book to those who died as a result of not recognizing their symptoms on time, those women who have learned about their risk after it was too late, to the mothers who worry first about others first and place themselves last, the family and friends whom Dr. Alvarez has lost, and mostly, to women everywhere who remain silent, living with their #1 life threat - Heart Disease.
