Pamella A. Russell was born in Buffalo, NY, but relocated to Brazil in her early teens, where she resided until she was a young adult. While living in Brazil, she graduated from a Catholic high school and later worked as a bi-lingual secretary. She fell in love with the Brazilian people, culture, language, music, and especially their rich folklore. She is a graduate of Rutgers University with a Spanish major and followed her BA with a Master of Library Service (MLS) degree. She is also a graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature. Ms. Russell is a member of the American Literary Translators Association, and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). In her recently published book, Adventures of the Saci Kids, Ms. Russell shares facets of her favorite Brazilian folk character, Saci, made famous by the renowned Brazilian author Monteiro Lobato (1882-1948). Saci is a tiny black, one-legged trickster with a magical red cap who travels in twirling wind tunnels and leaves an odor of rotten eggs in his stead to ward off his enemies. Ms. Russell is a retired library director and lives with her husband in Cape May, New Jersey. She hopes that children will discover a new element of interest in the pages of her book, but most of all, that they will read, read, and read!
