I am a Professor of History at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. I got my PhD in History from Texas Tech University. My interest in Tarot began years ago when I first met my wife. Now, our two adult kids (one, an artist, the other a physicist) are both interested in it, too. My book, The Cards, developed out of scholarly presentations I did at the annual Southwest Popular Culture Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The book gives us a chance to explore where tarot cards came from, different attitudes about their meanings, and their place in popular culture, especially art, movies, television, and comic books. I also approach the cards from psychological and religious perspectives. I find the cards, like the people who use them, to be weird, fun, a little mysterious, and very interesting.
