In May 2014, during a visit to Israel, my wife and I toured the Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, and it was during this visit that I learned of a group of Jewish children (later named the Tehran Children) stranded in Siberia in 1942, and from that chance meeting, the idea first blossomed for A Train to Palestine. After locating Joe Rosenbaum, one of the Tehran Children, I knew that this was a story that I was supposed to write. I began research in June 2014, and the writing of the book in September. It was a five-year project, and, for me, it is, simply, a vivid example of the human will to survive.
