Twenty years ago, a young journalist living in Colorado became intrigued, nay obsessed, with musician Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson from the groundbreaking sixties blues-rock outfit Canned Heat. Existing rock history books gave short shrift to Wilson's life and music, and Wilson's other aficionados were few and far-flung, this being in the years before the dominance of Internet communications.
Wilson's most dedicated fan, Rebecca Davis, began writing his biography in 1996. This led to eye-opening interviews, personal encounters, and experiences both sublime and lurid. Ultimately Davis, having become entangled in what remained of Alan Wilson's life, would take a decade to complete Blind Owl Blues, finally releasing it in 2007. The resulting shock waves resonating across the music scene, however, made it clear that this was a book worth the wait. The second edition has been released in paperback as well as an electronic version for Kindle.
