Richard R. Gonzalez, PhD. was born and grew up in El Paso, Texas but lived mostly in California, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. He was trained, firstly, as a molecular biologist (U of San Francisco) then migrated his scientific career as a biophysicist and physiologist (U.C., Davis). He taught and did research at the J.B. Pierce Foundation Lab, Yale School of Medicine and then joined the active environmental group at U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, Natick prior to retirement. He currently serves as a consultant in human physiology and biophysics as the lead scientist for Gonzalez Advanced Biophysics Associates (GABA) located in the lower Mimbres Valley in New Mexico near Silver City where he does most of his work. GABA functions nationwide as a scientific consulting firm for the DOD, private firms, and legal firms focusing on human thermal problems and mathematical modeling. He is currently active as an amateur fiction writer and poet focusing on diverse ethnic cultures. He authored a short story entitled “Laguna de Patos” published in the Twisted Vine, Literary Arts Journal in 2017. He also wrote several poems in Poets against the War. He is a Fellow of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, Air conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and Fellow of the American Physiology Society and the American College of Sports Medicine.
