After many years of studying Ancient Rome Robert Colton began to focus on the last generations that inhabited the city of Pompeii. Fascinated with the evidence left behind, the people of the lost city became very tangible. Pompeii: A Tale of Murder in Ancient Rome introduces Marcellus and Tay as the two nineteen year old men arrive in Pompeii. Marcellus, who narrates the stories, plays witness to the actual protagonist, his Egyptian companion named Tay. Colton set out to follow some of the classical Roman theatrical characters with the assembled cast. The clever slave who pulls the strings, the handsome youth who isn't as bright as he thinks he is, the angry old man who attempts to foil them both and the beautiful woman who needs to be saved -are found in his work. Each character springs from the conventional purpose into story lines that defy convention. Convoluted, humorous and unpredictable, Colton has brought life back to Pompeii in each of his books. However, not every character is fated to survive the adventure. In addition to writing books set in Rome's past, Robert spends countless hours attending to the whims of his retired greyhound.
