Major General (Retired) Robert W. Mixon, Jr. served for more than 33 years in the United States Army before co-founding Level Five Associates, a company with over 40 years of combined military, corporate, and not-for-profit senior leadership experience.
Robert has commanded an Army division and served as a senior corporate executive. The co-author of the Amazon Number 1 best seller, "Cows in the Living Room: Developing an Effective Strategic Plan and Sustaining It," Robert is an active blogger, publishing articles and videos bi-weekly about his “Big 6” Leadership principles. He has taught leadership in executive education programs at the Simon Business School, University of Rochester, the Olin Business School of Washington University at St. Louis, and the Cox Business School, Southern Methodist University. In 2016, Robert was selected for a Teaching Excellence Award at the Cox Business School.
At the time of his retirement from active duty in the United States Army, Robert was Commanding General Division West, First Army and Fort Carson Colorado, having previously commanded the 7th Infantry Division. Throughout his career of over 30 years of active service, he commanded operational units at every level.
Robert also held critical staff positions, including serving as deputy executive assistant to General Colin Powell, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Prior to his assumption of command of the 7th Infantry Division, he led the Army’s Task Force Modularity, an integrated team of highly-skilled military and civilian experts chartered with changing the Army’s force design while at war. The team accomplished the mission in less than one year, transforming our battlefield formations, which allowed the Army to dominate the enemy in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Robert retired from active duty in October of 2007 and transitioned to Magnatag Visible Systems in Macedon, New York as its President. Under his leadership, the company successfully navigated through the worst economic crisis in America since the Great Depression. In 2009, he became Executive Vice President of CDS Monarch, a 501c(3) not for profit based in Webster, New York, providing life and job transition for over 1,500 people with intellectual disabilities. He also helped found the Warrior Salute Program for Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injuries. To date, over 70% of the Veterans entering the Salute program have successfully graduated and are living independently.
Today, Robert leads Level Five Associates, helping companies and organizations grow world-class cultures through developing leaders who "get it" and building exceptional, high performing teams. Their clients range from both services and manufacturing sectors, as well as government agencies. He remains and continues to serve as the President of the West Point Class of 1974, and has served in a number of organizations serving Veterans and their families throughout the years.
He and his spouse Ruth live in Melbourne, Florida, where they enjoy time with their two sons and their spouses, along with their four grandchildren.
