Robert Taylor is a media lawyer with an MA in international copyright law. He has been advising creative people on copyright contracts and disputes for over 21 years. Copyright Made Easy is written to share some of these experiences.
Robert also has a background as a screenwriter and TV producer. Back in the 90’s he wrote episodes of BBC’s ChuckleVision. More recently, he was part of the team that created and produced Monty and Co, a live-action comedy drama for pre-schoolers, featuring the misadventures of a hysterical wallaby. Series one was bought by the BBC’s CBeebies channel and launched in 2021.
Seeing creators get ripped off time and time again led him to get involved with campaigns for creative rights. He was the Chair of the writers’ union, The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain for 3 years, and later the President of the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe between 2015 and 2019. In this role he represented more than 7,500 screenwriters and campaigned for remuneration rights to be included in copyright law.
As a lawyer, campaigner and creative he has long felt that creatives were not considered important in copyright law, when without creative people the media industry would have nothing to sell.
Every creator should understand copyright and in Copyright Made Easy is your introduction to it. It uses examples from films, books, painting, photography and music to tell the story and avoiding often impenetrable legal cases or boring legislation. Copyright Made Easy does its level best to explain it in ways non-lawyers can understand.
