Robert Whitbey grew up in Shafter, CA. He attended California State University, Bakersfield, the University of Wyoming and Point Loma University. He has been a high school science teacher for over a decade and an adjunct college professor for half that time. Prior to that he spent many years working in agricultural research. His hobbies include reading, writing, gardening and golf. He has published several books, so far. His first, How to Become a Reluctant Prepper and Why it’s OK to be One, is published under his pen name, The Reluctant Prepper. His second book, The Angel, is a superhero fantasy novel based in California’s Central Valley. That book was followed up by the second book in the series, The Vessel. The third novel in the series, The Soldier, was released in July of 2018. Rob's next novel moved away from the Small Town Hero Series in 2019. His fourth novel, The Competition, deals with the aftermath of an EMP strike on the west coast. The story is split into to separate narratives that come together in the end. The main story deals with a teacher stuck with ten students on a school trip. The teacher must get his students home, over one hundred miles away, on foot. The secondary story deals with the teacher's family at home trying to survive as the neighborhood begins to change after the attack. In 2020, Rob began a new series. The Land of Nod is about a man on a trip with his family when a virus wipes out most of the planet, including his wife and daughter. Those that survived include a lot of ravenous, angry zombie-like former people. The first book follows his settling in to the new world. Book #2 was released in Summer 2021 and Book #3 was released in January 2022. His favorite authors are Andy Weir, Ernest Clines and Mark Tufo. He currently resides in Bakersfield, CA with his wife, Lacy, and two sons, Dylan and Jack.
