I think I have always been an anxious person. I wasn’t happy unless I was worrying about something. It wasn’t until 2011 that my problems really started. I had a full blown nervous breakdown bought on by lack of sleep and stress about work. It all happened so suddenly even those close to me didn’t know what was going on. Originally I went to accident and emergency as I knew I wasn’t feeling right and I thought I needed a drip or something. I had my first real panic attack in the back of the police car on the way there. Then that night I was taken by ambulance to a mental health ward miles away. I would stay there for 2 weeks and I got better on medication. My sons couldn’t see me until near the end of my stay as I was behaving strangely. I had psychosis so would see and hear things that weren’t really there. It was such a hard hitting story that I decided to write a book about my experience. The book has really helped me as it details what actually happened and how I am coping with anxiety now. The third part has all the details of the research I did into why I got ill. I did get some answers from the professionals but I needed to find out more and it has helped me move on with my life.
I still keep a diary about my feelings now and have developed other strategies to stop me reaching crisis point again. I have started a Facebook page called ‘Voice for Anxiety (book)’. I regularly put posts on there and have quite a few followers now. What I really enjoy are the on-line events that I put on there: the first was for Stress Awareness Day, the second was called simply ‘Stressmas’ and the third is ‘A Year with less Fear 2018’. I also covered one on what I have learned about Wellbeing from the Ashford Symposium. My events are hour long discussions where people can post ideas or comment on my prepared posts on the topic (or they can just look at the information if they prefer). It’s so good now that people can talk more freely about how they feel, but there are still people out there that need to be reached and writing helps this.
I am really pleased that I have produced two books in my series so far and I look forward to reading more reviews. The audio book for 'The Sapphire Conspiracy and beyond it all' has just been submitted so watch this space.
