Scott McGlothlen is an American writer best known for "The Bare InkSlinger" - a bold and critically acclaimed blog on experimenting with baring it all, both emotionally and physically. And, yes, that means exactly what you might think. Also, the critics don’t know they’ve acclaimed it yet. Shh. Don’t tell them. As a child with severe ADHD, he struggled to read. Yet, Scott could somehow write a decent story. Between tales of a whimsical new Santa or a man's gruesome murder by a lump living under a rug, teachers took notice and nurtured his craft. Then he ruined it all by becoming a lazy teenager. In college, he wanted to reignite his love of words by studying journalism. But Scott's dreams were dashed when he was dissuaded from the industry by a strange "Intro to Journalism" professor who wore the same leather pants every day and once invited Scott to join him in his hot tub to discuss indie film. For the record, Scott did not accept this invitation. After undergoing a traumatic event at age 25, Scott developed a philosophy on living transparently, which, years later, landed him a side job writing honest stories from his daily life for a local publication. With both humor and heart (and a background in social work), Scott's essays became their top column. But after four years, many cuts in word count (to make space for advertisers), and being repeatedly told he couldn't curse (those f*ckers), he became frustrated writing for others, and left the biz. He took another hiatus and, in 2017, wanted to see what it would be like to write independently with books and a blog - just in time for blogs to go out of style. "The Bare InkSlinger" (translated as "The Naked Writer") would continue his tradition of transparent storytelling by openly discussing our fears, struggles, and the mistakes we make. However, this time he'd attempt the ultimate test of his vulnerability by not only emotionally stripping down, but also physically for the whole world to see. This concept would go on to be a wildly exciting artistic gesture of having nothing to hide. While polarizing to some, the blog has gathered a community of nearly ten-thousand readers who feel inspired to also experiment with transparency, vulnerability, and even body positivity. Scott's first book, "Breaking Glass Balloons: Short Stories of Sheer Embarrassment," has been hailed as some of his best work. The demand for a sequel has become high and Scott enjoys having regular panic attacks on whether he can make this happen. But with the reader’s love and support, he certainly has a fighting chance. Scott currently lives in Denver, CO with his long time partner, Luke, and their three-legged Shar-Pei dog named Steuben. When he isn't writing or working his full-time job, Scott likes health and fitness, cheap travel, behaving like a foodie, and hiking au naturale.
