I consider myself an “inside girl”, but God has put many friendships in my path, who are outdoor enthusiasts, which I am grateful for. At some point, I realized that I knew nothing about what to do if we ran in contact with a wild animal while on a hike. I thought to myself, these are things that could have been, at least discussed with me as a child, at home, or in school, because my only reaction was to RUN!! Perhaps, these things should be taught to a child, as common as looking both ways before crossing the street is? As a parent, I know that while children are under our protection, they soon grow old enough to wander into places alone. They also grow up to be adventurous teens, who are invited to camp-outs, and other amazing opportunities. Then to adulthood where they branch out on their own. We can’t keep them in a bubble forever. I decided to write the Freeze, Flee, Fight, or Friend series to help with initiating the conversation… What would you do? And to give a child/person an alternative reaction to running… which in most cases, is the absolute worst thing you can do in the case of most wild animals. But, with other dangers, sometimes it is appropriate. Help me start the conversation.
