Stephen retired from the US Army in 2011. He spent the next several years in various positions but didn't know what he wanted to do when he grew up.
It wasn't until a few years later he decided he wanted to write. After failing at blogging he knew it wasn't the end for his writing career. Sure, there would be other ways of putting bread on the table but writing would be there.
