Stuart Reid is an award-winning Scottish children’s author, well-known for his popular 'Gorgeous George' series. He has performed at over 2,000 schools, libraries and book festivals around Britain, Ireland, Isle of Man, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, India, Hong Kong and Australia. He has presented to over 300,000 children, teachers and parents, and sold nearly 100k books.
His 7th book 'Gorgeous George and the Timewarp Trouser Trumpets' was awarded the Silver Medal at the Wishing Shelf Book Awards in April 2019.
Stuart has also performed at over 250 Edinburgh Festival shows, and appeared alongside authors such as Michael Morpurgo and Roald Dahl prize winner Philip Ardagh. Irish Children's Laureate Eoin Colfer also said that Gorgeous George was "Gorgeously funny, exciting, smelly, revolting and brilliant!"
As a full-time author since 2012, Stuart maintains an action-packed schedule, and is considered one of the hardest working authors in Britain today. Recently, one principal teacher in Blackburn wrote "Simply the best author performance I have ever seen in 15 years of teaching. The best... by a long mile."
Stuart's success began when his first book, Gorgeous George & The Giant Geriatric Generator picked up the Forward National Literature Award 2012. Then in early 2013 the followup, Gorgeous George & The ZigZag Zit-Faced Zombies was released to incredible acclaim from both reviewers and, most importantly, kids. He has been awarded the Enterprise in Education Award from Falkirk Council and the snot zombies book has shortlisted for the Wishing Shelf Awards in 2015.
Stuart’s uniquely entertaining shows are exciting, inspiring, enthusiastic and hilariously funny for everyone involved. There are bags of bogies, bottom burps and false teeth flying. Stuart uses lots of alliteration and visualisation in his events to help inspire even the most reluctant readers to learn to love books.
In September 2013, Gorgeous George and the Unidentified Unsinkable Underpants Part 1 was released, but following a dispute with his publisher (now out of business), Stuart set off on his own. With the help of the Society of Authors legal dept, Unidentified Unsinkable Underpants Part 2 came out in August 2014.
His 5th book in the Gorgeous George series, Jumbo Jobby Juicer, was released in August 2015 with a 31 day launch party at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This latest book soon became Stuart's fastest selling title, notching up sales of 5000 signed copies in the first few months.
Book no.6 was launched at the Edinburgh fringe Festival in August 2017, and Gorgeous George and his Stupid Stink Stories is his first collection of short stories.
And today, Stuart can also claim to be an international author, when he signed a 5 book, 7 year deal with the Istanbul-based publisher, Nemesis. His first four books have been translated into Turkish
Stuart is a member of the Society of Authors and part of the Scottish Book Trust Live Literature program. He uses his profile to promote literature and a love of reading for pleasure to children everywhere, something which he is deeply passionate about.
