I have been an author for many years. My first publication was a children's short story which was published in 1970. More recently I have won more than one prestigious Maxwell award from the Dog Writers Association of America and awards from the National League of American Pen Women.
Some of my books are: Soldiers in Fur and Feathers: Animals that Served in WWI is a collection of true accounts about all of the animals that served in WWI and includes some rare photos. Faithful Friends is about the pets of the Holocaust victims and is the only book that I know of dedicated to their story. God's Creatures: A Biblical View of Animals combines my two lifelong passions, animals and Theology. Some people are surprised that I wrote Real Estate Today, Seller Beware - Save Yourself Thousands of Dollars, but having bought and sold houses about 20 times, I have learned the tricks of the trade. This very inexpensive book is a real gem, especially for those people who have not sold many houses.
I have developed two programs for students who want to become dog trainers and canine behavior consultants formally at Kutztown University, and now in Westminster MD, where I teach as an adjunct professor.
I am the former vice president of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and have been a dog and cat behavior consultant for many years. Please check out my web site for articles that will interest pet loves and writers.
I am a member, and on the advisory committee of the National Search Dog Alliance. My husband and I have over 25 years of volunteer service managing Canine Search and Rescue units and training SAR dogs. We are both certified as Search Managers and Incident Commanders.
I also co-formed the American Beauceron Club (formerly the North American Beauceron Club) and was instrumental in introducing this breed of dog to the United States. I trained the first Beauceron and Border Collie for search and rescue.
I am a retired senior conformation judge with the United Kennel Club.
I have trained the first dogs in the United States to detect toxic mold and hold a patent on the use and training of these dogs. I love to write both fiction and non-fiction. I am currently working on a book of humorous short stories.
I am proud to say that my son served in the Marines in Iraq.
I like old cars, and my husband and I had a 1954 Dodge M37 military vehicle. For many years I drove a 1948 Plymouth 4 door as my "regular" cat. I would love to get a 1950's Jeepster.
