Susan Tresser Chodakiewitz is a writer, composer, lyricist and the author of six children's books. Her most recent book, Selah the Peach, illustrated by Mosa Tanksley, is a tribute to the journey of finding your own unique path, getting in touch with your purpose. It follows a little peach bud as she discovers her true calling. Her book The Alphabet Thief is a celebration of words as each character is an actual word with a personality, hopes and dreams of its own. It's a great introduction to the power of language and great to teach kids how important words are for humans.
Susan is the founder of Booksicals, Literacy & Arts program, a K through 6th, arts enrichment curriculum based on picture books.. The Booksicals Literacy&Arts currciulum develops social emotional learning, team work and collaboration skills and improves reading fluency. Booksicals picture books have important social emotional themes such as kindness, friendship, being true to yourself, and the power of being included.
"I love picture books for their whimsical approaches to life's big issues. Picture books can be deeply philosophical and speak as much to adults as to the kids. Clothed in colorful and whimsical stories, picture books examine the deep questions of life. The books you read as a child stay with you forever. Children's picture books speak to the heart with simple truth using rhythmic language and colorful illustration."
"I grew up in a Cuban American family speaking Spanish and English with grandparents living in my house. There is no better formula for understanding the beauty of diversity and the ethnic contribution of all peoples than to frow up in New York city, speak several languages at home and hear immigrant stories from your parents and grandparents about overcoming hardship."
Susan has lived in New York, Florida, Israel, North Carolina, Toronto, and is currently residing in Los Angeles, California enjoying her husband, 3 sons, daughter-in-laws, and grandkids.
