When I was sixteen, my English teacher talked me into entering a poem I'd written into a contest. I figured it couldn't hurt so I followed her advice. Lo and behold, my poem won First Place in the American Poetry Society's Annual Contest.
A lot of water under the bridge since then. My first set back to writing came when in my senior year of high school I found out my dad didn't believe in sending girls to college.
I knew someone had to flip the burgers and I'm not putting the job down. I'm only saying it didn't fit into my picture of what I wanted to do with my life.
I ended up with a scholarship to go to X-ray Technology school. Not only did I get tution, books, and uniforms as well as room and board, I also recieved a stipend. The only thing was, I didn't know what an x-ray tech did.
It turned out good and bad. Good, I met and married my hubby and the bad news was after we had children, I worried about my girls all the time. I knew every odd, dumb and accidental way a kid could end up ruining or ending their life.
After a few years I told my husband we had 2 choice. I would either quit my job or I would wrap the girls in bubble wrap to keep them safe.
I quit and began to write. When I finished, which took years, I had written Tattered Wings.
Since then I've been divorced. I have three adorable grandkids.
I write full time, mostly cozy mysteries.
I hope you'll take a chance and try one.
