Deciding she wanted to change her life in 2002, Susan sold her house, gave up her job, put her belongings on a cargo ship bound for the Far East and moved herself and her nine year old son to Borneo. She worked as a primary school teacher, travelled, studied and left her comfort zone for the next eight years, ending up in Central America before deciding to hang up her boots and come home.
Settling back into Lincolnshire, in the UK, and with a 20-year career in education behind her, she set about helping others to create the presence and impact they need at times of change - not always easy! Having navigated new and unknown cultures, situations and people helped Susan to develop the tools she needed to teach those skills to others.
Her first book, published in 2013, Strategies for Being Brilliant: 21 Ways to be Happy, Confident and Successful does what it says on the tin. In it, Susan shares stories, techniques and inspiration from her time travelling with her young son, and her journey back to the UK.
Fast forward to 2018, Susan's son is now 24 and back from his first 6 month overseas trip, and Susan is firmly established as a leadership coach and trainer. She works with executives to develop their leadership presence, creating the impact and engagement they need to further their own careers, as well as fuelling the continued growth and results of their organisations.
Her second book, Strategies for Being Visible: 14 Profile-Raising Ideas for Emerging Female Leaders, due for publication in January 2019, does what it says on the tin too. Making sure that you're seen and heard, you're engaging and influential is a pre-requisite for a successful executive leadership career.
Susan spends her days writing, speaking, coaching and training - kept going by cheese and tea.
She now works with a range of private and public-sector clients including the BBC, the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the NHS and various charities and universities. She is also a mindfulness teacher and provides CPD and training for schools.
