I’ve had a multifaceted life. Just like Andie, the heroine of my Andie trilogy, I was a serious student who went to Bryn Mawr. But her four years were quite different from mine. I never rode horses, never sang so well I cpuld have a singing career, nor did I have a rich boyfriend who dangerously flew his own plane!
Like Andie I majored in Biology, and I did go to Medical School. While Andie was both a doctor and mother in When the Blue Birds Sing I never graduated from Medical School and became a stay-at-home Mom instead. Uniquely, Andie’s husband was black a situation that challenges her.
Later, I became a Biology professor who wrote textbooks which were well received by instructors and students alike. Textbook writing taught me I could write.
Why does Andie live on Martha’s Vineyard, that attractive island off the coast of Massachusetts? After visiting the island a few times, I happened to see a magazine ad for small Vineyard house lots. I snapped at it. Following a divorce, I moved to the island where I still vacation today.
When Andie loses her husband in the third book of the trilogy, Soar Like and Eagle, she becomes a congresswoman. While I have never been a congresswoman, I am a political junky who plays close attention to how Congress works.
