At six years old, Tal Tsfany argued with his grandmother about the existence of God, stating that he doesn’t believe things without proof and refusing to put the Jewish yarmulke over his head. At thirteen, when living in an Israeli communist settlement called a “kibbutz,” he argued with his teacher, who wouldn’t let him keep a tape recorder he got as a gift, claiming that it was not equal or fair to the other kids. Tal argued back, saying that communism is a social structure for ants, not for humans, and made his family leave the kibbutz shortly after.
At forty, when he was vice president of a twenty-thousand-person tech company, one of his employees suggested he read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. As a result of reading this book, Tal had to rethink many of his deeply held premises about the purpose of his life, his vision for the type of person he aspired to be, and eventually the values he wanted to pursue. He went on to quit his job and join a Silicon Valley tech start-up, which he helped grow toward a successful acquisition by a larger company. After much introspection and deliberation, Tal decided to move away from the technology world and dedicate his time to his passion for making philosophy clear and actionable.
He is currently president and CEO of the Ayn Rand Institute and the founder of the Happiness Team and the Hero MasterMind Workshops and the “Happiest Man Alive” and “Unhappy Millionaire” podcasts, all of which focus on understanding and implementing the concept of objective, philosophy-based happiness. Lastly, and most importantly, Tal lives his passionate life by filling every day with meaning and self-expression through his carefully chosen set of authentic values.
