Thomas E. Alexander is the author of four books on Texas military history, one biography, two novels, and co-author with Dan K. Utley of three additional works on military history. His first book, The Stars Were Big and Bright, Vol. I, was named Publication of the Year by the San Antonio Conservation Society in 2001. His fourth book, The One and Only Rattlesnake Bomber Base received the prestigious Rupert Richardson Award from the West Texas Historical Association in 2006. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an officer in the Strategic Air Command and as a Major in the Illinois Air National Guard. He is a former rancher and a graduate of the University of Colorado. He also holds a Masters Degree in Military Studies from the American Military University. In 2012, he was named AMU's Distinguished Graduate. Alexander was appointed to the Texas Historical Commission by Governor Rick Perry in 2003 and retired as Vice Chairman of the Commission after serving two six year terms. Before becoming an author and historian, he was Executive Vice President of Neiman Marcus for nearly twenty years. In 2007, Alexander received the History Award Medal from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He lives in the Hill Country of Texas with his wife, Capy.
