I love gardening. After 33 years working in my garden, we sold our house and relocated to a condo. I was so sad to leave the garden with its dozens of trees, shrubs, and perennials that I had planted over the years. I am now adjusting to a small deck with container gardening in a lot of shade. It will be fun and challenging at the same time. I am Professor Emeritus of Communication Studies at Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Also, I am a graduate of the Boston Architectual College's Landscape Institute, a Master Gardener, and a garden columnist. My books include America's Romance with the English Garden, Best Garden Plants for New England, Deconstructing Public Relations, and Sociodrama. My interests in writing center on garden history and public relations criticism. At the end of April, 2021 Ohio University Press will publish my new book All about Flowers: James Vick's Nineteenth-Century Seed Company. The theme of the book is how Vick (1818-1882) encouraged Victorian flower gardens filled with flowers we still love today. Vick often said that his one goal in life was to "spread the love of floriculture." He did that and much more as a gentle, kind, and compassionate seed company owner.
