Tim Laseter currently serves on the faculty of the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. He has also served on the faculty of a number of other leading schools including the Tuck School at Dartmouth, IESE in Barcelona, the London Business School, the Goizueta Business School at Emory, the Owen School at Vanderbilt, and the Stern School at New York University. He holds a BS in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology plus an MBA and a Ph.D. from the Darden School. Formerly a Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton, Tim also served as a Managing Director at PwC-Strategy&, the latest incarnation of his old firm. He draws upon over 30 years of consulting experience and ongoing research to provide a current and pragmatic view of issues in operations strategy and organization. Tim is author of Balanced Sourcing: Cooperation & Competition in Supplier Relationship (Jossey Bass 1998)--which has been published in English, Japanese, Portuguese, and Chinese. He coauthored, Strategic Product Creation (McGraw-Hill 2007) with Rom Kerber, former Chief Technology Officer of Whirlpool Corporation. A collaboration with a team of Darden School faculty, produced the fifth edition of the Portable MBA (Wiley 2010). Finally, his latest book and current consulting focsuses on online and omnichannel retailing as noted in his collaboration with Elliot Rabinovich of Arizona State University: Internet Retail Operations (Taylor & Francis 2011). He served as a contributing editor to strategy+business with nearly 50 articles covering a variety of topics including supply chain management, delivery economics, strategic outsourcing, product development and e-Business dating back to issue number two of the journal in 1996. Over the years, he has been quoted in a host of publications including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Industry Standard, Progressive Grocer, Purchasing, Internet Retailer, ComputerWorld, Advertising Age and The New Yorker. Tim has been married to his wife, Jody for over 40 years. They have two children and two grandchildren; their son Josh is an honors graduate of Georgia Tech, now a software developer with Quantitative Investment Management in Charlottesville and their daughter Cecilia, an honors graduate of Hamilton College who also earned an MBA at the McCombs School at the University of Texas has an online startup called Peck Boards operating out of Austin. Jody is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and animal lover with a half dozen Labrador Retrievers, a cat, three goats, three dozen chickens, and two bee hives. Tim enjoys reading classic fiction, science fiction, business histories, and general science. He has competed in triathlons since 1990 and managed several first place finishes in the Clydesdale Masters category between 2003 and 2009. He also enjoys endurance cycling and successfully completed several 200k, 300k, 400k, and 600k brevets as well as the infamous Paris-Brest-Paris 1200k ride in August 2007 (in 83.5 hours).
