Tony Carnival is that rare author who comes along once in a generation. Born with a penchant for storytelling and an uncanny ability to weave innovative ideas into cogent prose, he has developed from the nine-year-old short-story writer to the current epic fiction talent. Over Odyssey: Yellow is the first novel in a sextet of epic fantasy, which has already been heralded as "lavish and captivating," and as "an amazing roller coaster ride of excitement and thrills." A New Jersey native, he now lives in New York with his beloved family and is busy writing the second book in the sextet, Over Odyssey: Blue - a sequel that is already greatly anticipated by his fans. What reviewers are saying... Reviewed by Natasha Jackson for Readers' Favorite On the surface Ex appears to be your typical American teen with a less than ideal family life. His dad has run away, his sister is dead, and his family home is in danger of being repossessed. The only reason Ex hasn’t completely fallen in with a bad crowd is that he has his mother and baby brother to care for, and his love for them keeps him this side of sane. Over Odyssey: Yellow begins just as Ex celebrates his 13th birthday and he learns that all in his life is not as it seems. So begins Tony Carnival’s long journey through Old Earth and Odyssia, the homeland which Ex has no memory of thanks to a years-old accident. Tony Carnival does a decent, if long-winded, job of walking the reader through the strange sequence of events that lead to Ex’s journey of discovery. Between his new friends and the newly released video game, so much of Ex’s life is revealed to him, leaving him feeling disconnected from the home he once loved. Over Odyssey: Yellow is a true fantasy tale with faraway lands and a heaping helping of video game hysteria to tie it into modern times. Although there is so much more to this story, what most appealed to me was Ex’s relationship with his brother Gadget. Their relationship was uncomplicated in the beginning and filled with love, but then unthinkable choices had to be made, which just made their bond stronger. I enjoyed their relationship most, but the story was well written, elaborate, and intriguing.
