U. S. Air Force Veteran, Author, Educator, Entrepreneur, Lecturer
Wil Brower is the founder and president of W. Brower & Associates, a management consulting and training firm. Dr. Brower is a former member of the U. S. Air Force and an executive with Bell Telephone Laboratories and AT&T, where he held numerous line and staff positions. He has consulted and trained for clients such as the AT&T, The University of Memphis, DuPont Pharmaceuticals, Dow Chemical Company, U. S. Veterans' Administration, Raleigh News and Observer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U. S. Postal Service, National CASA and Illinois Youth Advocacy Programs. He also has been a guest lecturer at Fayetteville State University, University of Michigan, North Carolina Central University and Webster University, and a visiting professor with the National Urban League's Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP).
He is also a certified high school Business Education and English teacher and is the founder and president of the Institute for Youth Development & Educational Resources (IYDER), Inc., a non-profit organization that provides training for students at-risk of academic and personal failures, and for educators who are struggling to understand and reverse academic underachievement among disadvantaged students. He has been a presenter at several national, state and regional conferences, including NC Dropout Prevention, NC Department of Public Instruction's Closing the Achievement Gap, At-Risk Youth National Forum, NC Communities in Schools, and Black Administrators in Child Welfare. He designed and developed STEP-UPP, a learning process for students at-risk of academic and personal failure; a companion learning process titled The Teacher as Manager and Understanding and Reversing Academic Under-Achievement among Disadvantaged Students, a learning process for teachers and administrators interested in closing the academic achievement gap.
Dr. Brower earned an undergraduate degree in English Education, an MBA in Management and a Doctoral Degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Human and Organizational Development. He is the author of A Little Book Big Principles--Values and Virtues for a More Successful Life (1998); Me Teacher, Me...Please! (2002); Traffic Signs on the Road of Life (2012), Of Life, Love and Learning--Selected Poems and Educational Raps, Rhymes and Rhythms (2012) and Grammar and Writing Made Simple (2009). He also has been published in Harvard Business Review (Nov.-Dec. 1996) Cultural Diversity at Work (January, 1997), Vital Speeches of the Day (Feb. 15, 2000).
