Zac Hopkins was born in Montreal, Quebec. His father was an American-born English teacher, while his mother, a Frenchwoman, was editor-in-chief of a daily newspaper. At the age of 17, in 1983, he went to livewith his father in New York City. A keen historian, he pursued studies in English literature and classics and was very active with the university newspaper. Having written a few articles, he developed a taste for writing. Armed with his degree in history he joined the faculty of a New York university, where he taught for a number of years; then, thanks to his father’s influence, he took an interest in politics. He read many books on the subject, but a particular passion was ignited in 1990 when his father suggested he should read Jim Garrison’s "On the Trail of the Assassin". He became fascinated with the history of US presidents, perusing biographies of each of them and seeking out articles published during their terms. He couldn’t help noticing that a few of them had been fighting for the same cause. His interest in writing was rekindled, and he began to mine the subject for a series of novels fictionalizing the historical events. Leaving his university post in 2008 he launched into the first volume in the series "The Presidents’ Secret". While he now resides in the United States, thanks to his dual citizenship he makes regular visits to his rural retreat in Quebec, where he is currently working on the second volume in the series.
